Tough Mudder transforms London’s East End for one day only

Londoners were treated to something a bit out of the ordinary this week when notorious obstacle race Tough Mudder set up a temporary residence in the capital’s East End.

Transforming the aptly-named Mudchute into ‘Mudderchute’ for one day only on Tuesday (January 24) organisers called on ordinary Londoners to escape the ordinary with a smaller-scale course around Mudchute Park and Farm, which served as the first-ever official Tough Mudder training event.

Founded in the US in 2010, events in the infamous endurance series see participants attempt 10–12 mile-long military-style obstacle course, attracting between 10,000 and 15,000 participants per event.

The Mudderchute course also gave Londoners a glimpse at several new obstacles set to feature in events in 2017, including Augustus Gloop, Kong and Funky Monkey – The Revolution.

Commenting on Tuesday’s event, Will Dean, CEO and Co-Founder of Tough Mudder, Inc. said: “Tough Mudder has always been about doing something amazing with your friends and escaping the mundane routine. Turning Mudchute to Mudderchute and surprising commuters on their dreary route to work gets to the heart of the Tough Mudder spirit.
