‘Please Like Me’ creator Josh Thomas to write and star in new US TV series

The gay actor and comedian is working on a brand new pilot for Freeform.

The creator of acclaimed comedy drama Please Like Me is set to write and star in a brand new US TV series.

Australian actor and comedian Josh Thomas, whose LGBT-themed show won legions of critical acclaim and a loyal cult following before wrapping in December 2016 after four seasons, is reportedly working on a new pilot for US cable channel Freeform entitled Everything’s Gonna Be Okay.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming comedy “revolves around Nicholas (Thomas), a typical 25-year-old still living at home with his single dad and two teenage half sisters, who is not particularly helpful in raising his siblings, one of which has autism.

“However, when their dad becomes terminally ill, the girls have to cope with not only a devastating loss but also the realization that Nicholas is the one who will have to hold it all together.”

 

Thomas, 30, made his name on the comedy circuit before penning the first semi-autobiographical season of Please Like Me in 2013, chronicling the life of a young 20-something coming to terms with his sexuality after his mother attempts suicide.

Co-starring former Neighbours actress Caitlyn Stasey, the series was praised for its frank depiction of LGBT and mental health issues and won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy series three years in a row from 2014-16.

All four seasons of Please Like Me are available to stream in the UK on Amazon Prime – and with more off-beat comedy gold from Josh Thomas apparently on the way, now seems like the perfect time for a binge-watch…
