Norwich FC shut down troll who complained about the club supporting Pride

Considering British football’s long-documented history of homophobia, Norwich City FC’s decision to support the city’s Pride event was a welcome display of allyship from the world of sport.

But not everyone was happy with the club’s solidarity. A disgruntled fan took exception to a facebook post from the club, which reads, “Norwich City and Aviva are proud to be supporting Norwich Pride this weekend” replying with “what the hell has this got to do with football?”.

However, the club was quick to shut down the complaint, by simply replying “everything”.

The first British footballer to come out as gay, Justin Fashanu, sadly ended his own life in 1998 following torrents of homophobic abuse after he came out. The footballer, who died aged 37, began his professional football career at Norwich City FC.
