Lavigne hits back at racism claims over ‘Hello Kitty’ video

Avril Lavigne has hit back at critics who have branded her new music video “racist”.

The singer’s Hello Kitty video debuted earlier this week – and immediately caused controversy.

US music magazine Billboard strongly criticised the promo clip, declaring it a “trainwreck” and calling out Lavigne for alleged “Japan fetishisation”.

Lavigne, 29, took to Twitter earlier today (April 24) to defend herself, scoffing at accusations of racism and defiantly posting a link to the video. See her series of tweets below.

However, the Hello Kitty video has now been removed from YouTube by Lavigne’s record label.

Earlier this month (April) pop singer Sky Ferreira was also forced to defend herself against allegations of racism after releasing a supposedly offensive music video.
