Watch | Little boy stars in new Barbie advert and totally steals the show

In a move that’s being hailed as a breakthrough for challenging gender stereotypes in children toys and marketing, a little boy appears in the a new Barbie doll advert – and he totally steals the show.

The 30-second commercial shows the boy and two female friends playing with the new Moschino Barbie; a limited edition of the iconic kids’ doll who the little boy (correctly) points out is “so fierce”.

Commentators have been quick to heap praise on the ad for its progressive take on 21st century gender roles, including RuPaul’s Drag Race star Pandora Boxx, who wrote: “This almost made me cry! I used to play with my sister’s Barbies and felt such shame afterward.

“I’m so glad we can just let kids be kids. Thank you for this! Boys like dolls too!”
