Tory MP tells married gay voter to ‘never bother him again’

A Tory MP  told a woman “never bother him again” after she informed him that she had married her female partner.

Laura Hawes, who married her long-term girlfriend Jess O’Sullivan last year, celebrated the commitment by changing her name to O’Sullivan shortly after the wedding.

After receiving a letter from Peterborough Tory MP Stewart Jackson that was addressed to her former surname, she decided to respond, explaining to Jackson in a letter that because of his opposition to same-sex marriage, she would not be voting for him in the future.

Take a look at her letter below:

 Dear Stewart Jackson,

You sent me a letter, I wish to inform you that it was sent to the wrong name, Hawes is my maiden name. As of last October I am happy to say I am married, And have therefore changed my surname to O’Sullivan.

And as my Wife and I enjoying our rights to an equal marriage, something that you did not support we will not, in no un certain terms, be voting for you.
Please never write to me again.

Shortly after sending the email, the woman received this response from Jackson:

The feeling’s fully mutual.

Please feel free to never bother me again.

Following a wave of support from friends on Facebook after sharing the emails, O’Sullivan told Buzzfeed that she was “disappointed” that the response from Jackson – who voted against same-sex marriage – was so blunt.

“I was very disappointed, it means a lot to have the right to marry the person you love,” she said. “I didn’t expect a response at all so when I got such a blunt one I felt the need to share with my friends on Facebook. I didn’t expect the message to be shared so much and the support has been really nice and appreciated.”
