Republic of Ireland football team don rainbow flag on kit to mark Pride month

The team and US club both wore the rainbow colours to show their support for the LGBT community

The Republic of Ireland and US football teams incorporated the rainbow on their kits during their game over the weekend.

The Football Association of Ireland revealed the new kits on Twitter and see the numbers on the back of the player’s shirts are filled with the colours of the rainbow flag instead of the traditional white, to mark the beginning of Pride month.

Irish football’s governing body said wearing the special kits shows their support for the LGBT movement and forms part of the UEFA’s Equal Game initiative.

At the same time, S Soccer announced that their team would be wearing the jerseys in honour of LGBT+ Pride Month during their June friendlies.
