Police appeal for information after London homophobic attack

A 20-year-old man had to go to hospital after being hit by a glass on the chin.

Police are appealing to the public for information following a homophobic attack that took place in Newham in August.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police a 20-year-old man was approached by an unknown man while at The Grove on Friday 19 August at around 11 pm. 

The unknown man is said to have made homophobic comments at around midnight before the victim walked away to another table. 

“A short time later, the victim was hit by a glass on the chin. The victim was taken to hospital for stitches,” the statement continues. 

Officers are looking to speak to anyone who knows anything about the man pictured below in connection with the incident. 

Anyone with information or anyone who may know the identity of the man pictured should call 101 and quote reference 434/20AUG.

People can remain anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

In August, police forces in the UK reported the biggest annual rise in homophobic and transphobic hate crime ever recorded. Homophobic hate crime reports doubled while transphobic hate crime reports have tripled over the last five years.
