The Ohio lawmaker who blamed the recent mass shootings in America on drag queens, gay marriage and the trans community refuses to resign.
The weekend saw two shooters target innocent people in both Texas and Ohio and most people paid their respects to the family – except for Donald Trump who named the wrong city – Candice Keller took the opposite route.
Keller – who is running for the Ohio Senate in Butler County in 2020 – blamed the shootings on the LGBTQ comment on a now-deleted Facebook post just hours after 29 people were murdered in two mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio,
She went on to list all the reasons why she thinks mass shootings happen and included, ‘The breakdown of the traditional American family (thank you, transgender, homosexual marriage, and drag queen advocates)’.
Following on from her comments, Ohio Republican Party chair Jane Timken called for Keller to resign.
“Candice Keller’s Facebook post was shocking and utterly unjustifiable,” said Timken in a statement.
“Our nation is reeling from these senseless acts of violence and public servants should be working to bring our communities together, not promoting divisiveness.”
However, Keller gave a statement to the Cincinnati Enquirer and revealed she plans to stay in office and to continue to run for state Senate.
She said: “Establishment moderates have never been fans of mine because I ran against their endorsement and won.
“As the only conservative in this race, I will be taking my Senate campaign to the voters to decide.”
