MPs vote in favour of introducing LGBTQ+ inclusive lessons in schools
Faith schools will be to teach the guidance from a ‘distinctive faith perspective’

MPs have voted in favour of LGBTQ+ inclusive relationship and sex education lessons in schools.
Education Secretary Damian Hinds brought the new proposal to the House of Commons this week calling for a change in the sex and relationship education guidance, which has not been updated in 20 years.
The new curriculum will include subjects on relationships education from primary school, relationships and sex education at secondary school and health education for all ages.
Now, 538 MPs backed the proposal meaning children will be taught about different family models, iNews reported.
Only 21 MPs opposed the measure but now will need approval from the House of Lords which, if approved, will mean the new guidelines will come into force from September 2020.
Recently schools in Birmingham faced protests as Muslim parents argued that the ‘No Outsiders’ programme was against their religion and sexualised their children.
According to the Department for Education, faith schools are able to teach the guidance from a ‘distinctive faith perspective’ and a ‘balanced debate may take place about issues that are seen as contentious’.
