Man in ‘life-threatening condition’ following attack in Manchester’s gay village

A man has been left in a critical condition after a random attack outside Void nightclub, Richmond Street, in Manchester’s gay village.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said the perpetrator, who’s been described as “an Asian man in his late 30s-early 40s, wearing blue jeans, a black t-shirt, and brown boots” head-butted the victim in an apparently unprovoked attack at around 5:30 am on Sunday morning (July 24).
According to reports, the victim was initially able to get up after being knocked to the ground by the attack, but later fell unconscious and went into cardiac arrest.

Detective Sergeant Phillip Marsh, of Greater Manchester Police, has appealed for witnesses to come forward with information about the attack
“This horrific and random act of violence has left a man in critical condition in hospital,” he said. “The motive for the attack is not clear but do we believe it was a completely unprovoked attack on an innocent man”.
“I urge anyone who saw the assault or has information about who is responsible to come forward and speak to police”.
It’s not known if the assault was motivated by homophobia.
Meanwhile, Manchester’s Void bar and sister bar Kiki posted a statement to Facebook confirming that the victim, who was not a customer at the bar, was given medical attention by staff.
