A couple have suffered six years of hate crime from their neighbour who smeared faeces on their door and wrote a note say, ‘The cure to Aids? Kill gay people’.
Michael Killackey, 46, has lived in Derby for nine years with his partner but for the majority of their time, they have faced a barrage of hate crime from their neighbour who – along with the disgusting acts already mentioned – sent male prostitutes to their door and called them ‘paedo scum’.
However, despite reporting these incidents to the Derbyshire Police, the attacks didn’t stop until the woman moved away, Derbyshire Live reported.
While speaking at a Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel meeting last week, Killackey hit out at the police force and said: “It was just shocking. I didn’t know what to do.
“I have been subject to the most vile abuse imaginable. I’ve been called fucking paedo scum and even been spat at. I’ve had men sent to my home for sex.
“A man came to my door and I said, ‘What are you here for?’ and he just said, ‘I must have got the wrong address’. But I saw his phone and noticed he was from an escort site.
“At one point, we had 17 different takeaways delivered in one night. Chinese, Indian, pizza… you name it. We just kept telling them that we didn’t order it.
“You just don’t deal with it. I didn’t know where to go and I had this for six years. So, what about others?
“I didn’t know what to do. I kept being batted away with the excuse of mental health and that the neighbour suffered with mental heath issues.
“I fully understand that but why was she living independently and what about my mental health, having to put up with it?
“I didn’t know where to go and I was sad. But I eventually came to Derbyshire LGBT and spoke to John.
“It was like my rockets had been refuelled. He helped me and made me realise I wasn’t alone.
“You always think that you’re the only one that it happens to but that’s so wrong. Coming here and hearing other people’s stories made me understand that.”
