Kathy Griffin re-tweets infamous Trump head photo as US awaits election result

Griffin previously retracted her apology for the controversial image.

Kathy Griffin has re-tweeted the infamous photo of herself holding a mask that’s meant to represent Donald Trump’s severed head.

The comic caused huge controversy when she released the picture the last time, in May 2017.

The pic, shared again by Griffin yesterday, was taken by photographer Tyler Shields.

“Blood coming out of his… wherever”

Kathy, 60, originally posted the photo with the message: “I caption this ‘there was blood coming out of his eyes, blood coming out of his…wherever.'”

Her caption was a reference to Trump’s remarks about journalist Megyn Kelly (“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever”) after she challenged him on-camera about his history of misogyny at a Republican debate in 2015.

The post caused huge backlash, with Griffin being fired from a CNN NYE broadcast later that year.

Her close friend and fellow CNN figure Anderson Cooper said at the time in a statement: “For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.” 

Kathy apologised for the photoshoot, but later retracted the apology, saying on TV show Sunrise: “I am no longer sorry. The whole outrage was B.S.”

This time around, Kathy shared the photo without a caption. In this case, a picture really does speak a thousand words!
