Iceland to consider lifting ban on gay and bisexual men donating blood

The news comes after Denmark lifted the ban allowing men to donate from 2019

Iceland is considering allowing gay and bisexual men to donate blood.

The Ministry of Health is considering the change of regulations following Denmark’s decision to allow gay and bisexual men to donate blood from 2019.

Iceland’s government department is due to announce its decision of the issue in the upcoming months, Icelandic online publication Visir reported.

Although Denmark has lifted the ban, gay and bisexual men will still need to be celibate for four months compared to a year, which is the regulations of many countries including the UK.

In both Nordic countries there is a blanket ban on men who have sex with men from donating blood.
