Google has been slammed for a ‘pray the gay away’ app which calls LGBT+ people “sexually broken”.
The Living Hope Ministries app, which appears on Google’s Play Store, encourages people to have conversion therapy and brands LGBT+ people as individuals who can ‘walk out of false identities’.
The religious non-profit group, which says it helps ‘those who are seeking sexual and relational wholeness through a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ’, created and owns the LHM Men’s Network app.
A petition was launched on change.org by the LGBT+ organisation Truth Wins Out after Google failed to remove the app from its store.
The petition reads: “Every moment that this app remains at Google’s online store, vulnerable LGBT teenagers can download it, so time is of the essence.
“The surprising silence from Google is in stark contrast with the corporation’s stated policies of inclusion, respect and diversity. So why hasn’t the company taken action?
“Why is Google offering a platform for such a mean-spirited and dangerous product?”
The app has been downloaded over 1,000 times and before Christmas, Apple removed the app from their store.
