Gay group to march in New York’s St. Patrick’s Day parade

A gay group is expected to march in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade next year.
A group of gay employees from US television network NBC will carry a banner acknowledging their sexuality.
NBC – broadcaster of the parade – reportedly threatened to pull coverage of the 2015 event unless changes were made.
Earlier this year, organisers of the annual parade controversially refused to allow groups carrying pro-gay signs to take part, prompting high profile sponsor Guinness to withdraw its support of the event.
Heineken also withdrew its sponsorship, while New York City mayor Bill De Blasio became the first mayor in decades not to take part in the annual event.
A source told The Irish Voice: “Once an iconic company like Guinness showed it was standing up pretty much everyone else had to follow.”
