Gay Conservative MP and boyfriend receive death threat through the post

Conservative MP Elliot Colburn has made a police report after receiving a homophobic letter through the post.
The Member of Parliament for Carshalton and Wallington received the letter addressed to him and his boyfriend Jed Dwight last Thursday.
The letter reads: “F***ing tory scum. You and your f*g boyfriend should watch your backs.
“Enjoy your time you smug prick you aint got many left.
“Rar coming for you [sic].”
“The police have been informed”
Later sharing a picture of the letter on Twitter, South Londoner Colburn said: “Sounds like a charming individual.

Subsequently speaking to MyLondon about the letter, Colburn said: “The concerning thing about it was it is targeting another member of my family. Jed is involved in politics as well so he knows what life is like, he doesn’t take anything to heart.”

The 28-year-old continued: “It is never a nice thing to get and it does sometimes play on your mind.
“I didn’t expect to have the homophobic element, thankfully it isn’t something I’ve had regularly which is a sign of the [times]; I represent a tolerant constituency.”
A representative for Colburn has been contacted for further comment.
Labour Co-operative Party MP Luke Pollard – who, in February, received abuse from anti-gay trolls over a Valentine’s Day picture of himself and his boyfriend – publicly expressed support for Colburn.
“Sorry to see this Elliot,” tweeted Pollard, who is Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. “Solidarity to you and your partner.”
Conor Burns, who is the Conservative MP for Bournemouth West and also gay, furthermore tweeted: “Dreadful. I get them occasionally. Always strikes me how much more work there is to do to teach punctuation in schools!”
