Gay and straight London choirs to sing together in solidarity for Orlando victims
for an event which will see five of the UK’s leading choirs come together to raise money for the families of the victims of the Orlando massacre, which claimed the lives of 49 people last Sunday (June 12).
The London Gay Men’s Chorus, who honoured the dead at London’s Soho vigil on Monday with a rousing rendition of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ on the Monday after the massacre, will be singing with Diversity Choir, The Pink Singers at St. Pancras Church, which is hosting the event.
In a mark of solidarity with the LGBT community, the choirs will be joined by Adam Street Singers, a young contemporary choir based in central London, and the NHS Choir of Lewisham and Greenwich, which is also lending our community their support.
The chair of the Pink Singers Choir, Simon Pearson said: “The events in Orlando have rocked us to the core and our hearts go out to the victims’ families. Since 1983 The Pink Singers have been drowning out LGBT persecution through the power of song. Joining forces with like-minded choir friends in London is a natural response to show our solidarity at this time.”
The proceeds from the event will be split equally between each victim’s family members in conjunction with Equality Florida’s Pulse Victim Fund.
