A former Labour MP has said he will run as an independent in the general election after the party withdrew support when he backed protesters in the ongoing LGBTQ teaching row.
This year, a number of primary schools around Birmingham faced ongoing protesters after parents complained about LGBTQ inclusive lessons at the schools.
Roger Godsiff was the Labour MP for Birmingham Hall Green until he lost support from the party after backing the anti-LGBTQ teaching protests outside schools in the city.
Now, Godsiff was told by the national executive committee (NEC) that he wouldn’t be endorsed as a candidate in the upcoming December 12 election.
But the MP announced he would be running in the election in his former constituency as an Independent Labour candidate, the Guardian reported.
He reportedly said that ‘a small intolerant vindictive group within the LGBT community’ had carried out a ‘vicious and vindictive campaign of character assassination against me using social media and misinformation to stir up a witch-hunt’.
