Footballer who hurled anti-gay slur at Robbie Roger banned for two matches

Former West Bromwich midfielder Richard Chaplow has been banned for two matches after being found guilty of verbally abusing LA Galaxy player Robbie Rogers.

Former Attitude cover star Rogers, who is openly gay, revealed via Facebook earlier this week that he had been called a “queer” by an opponent during a match between Orange County Blues, who Chaplow plays for, and LA Galaxy.

Chaplow, who was seen confronting Rogers following a collision towards the end of the match, denies that he used homophobic language against Rogers.

The United Soccer League have suspended Chaplow for two matches for using “offensive and abusive language”. He’s also been find.

After an investigation, USL have now suspended Chaplow for two matches and fined him for using ‘offensive and abusive language’.

In a statement, USL president Jake Edwards said:“The USL has zero tolerance for this type of behaviour. We cannot, nor will we, condone any language that is counter to the values we have instilled throughout the USL.”
