Dutch clinics to offer surrogacy to same-sex couples from next year

The service will also be available for women with oncological complaints

Dutch fertility clinics will be offering surrogacy to same-sex couples from next year.

Up until now, it has been impossible for same-sex couples to conceive a child via surrogacy due to strict regulations, newspaper AD reported.

But now, according to a survey by TV program De Monitor, at least two clinics in the Netherlands will start offering surrogacy options for gay couples from next year.

Speaking to TV programme De Monitor, Marc Scheijvan – the director at the Nij Geertgen clinic in Elsendorp – said: “I think it’s too crazy for words that gay couples, but also women with oncological complaints for example, have to go abroad to fulfil their desire to have children.

“While we have all medical and technical experience in house.”

The Nij Geertgen clinic and the MC Kinderwens in Leiderdorp will start offering this service since the strict criteria for surrogacy was broadened following the change of the Embryo Act this year.
