Donald Trump and Melania test positive for coronavirus

The US President, 74, is in a high-risk category.

US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have both tested positive for coronavirus.

Trump confirmed the news on Twitter today, saying “We will get through this together.”

The politician – aged 74, and therefore in a high-risk group – and his wife are now self-isolating.

The US election, which sees Trump go head to head with Democrat Joe Biden, takes place on 3 November 2020.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19,” Trump said in a tweet.

“We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

 

Melania, 50, also addressed the news on Twitter, saying: “As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19.

“We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together.”

The news follows Hope Hicks, a close aide of Trump’s, also testing positive for coronavirus.
