Cyndi Lauper turns her North Carolina concert into LGBT benefit

North Carolina has been causing a stir since passing the anti-LGBT law ‘House Bill 2’.

The bill prevents transgender people from using the bathroom which correlates to the gender with which they associate, and has already seen North Carolina boycotted by other musicians like Bruce Springsteen, and even the adult website xHamster, who have blocked access to their content from within the state. However, Cyndi Lauper is doing something different.

The 62-year-old pop star has made an announcement that she will turn her upcoming concert in North Carolina into a benefit against the law.

Lauper is scheduled to perform on June 4 in Raleigh and in a statement on Cyndi’s website, she states that “The pressure to repeal HB2 is building and it is beautiful.”

“In that vein, the best way I know how to make a difference is what I have strived to do my whole life and that is show up for my family, friends and fans in the LGBT community.”

“So, for that reason I think the best way I can do my part is to turn my show into an entire day to build public support to repeal HB2.”

She also said that all of the show’s proceeds will be donated to charity.

“I will be donating all of the profits from the show to Equality North Carolina’s efforts to repeal HB2 and I am proud of my manager and agent for joining me by donating their commissions from the show to this vital effort.”

She ends the statement by saying she looks forward to performing in North Carolina and standing up for equality.
