Cirque du Soleil cancels all shows in North Carolina due to anti-LGBT law

North Carolina has been under fire during the last month for their anti-LGBT law, HB2.

The bill prevents transgender people from using the bathroom which correlates to the gender with which they associate, and has already seen North Carolina boycotted by other musicians like Bruce Springsteen, and even the adult website xHamster, who have blocked access to their content from within the state and now, Cirque du Soleil.

The acrobatic troupe has released a statement on Facebook explaining that they are cancelling all shows in North Carolina.

“Cirque du Soleil strongly believes in diversity and equality for every individual and is opposed to discrimination in any form. The new HB2 legislation passed in North Carolina is an important regression to ensuring human rights for all.”

“We therefore choose to cancel our scheduled performances of OVO in Greensboro (April 20-24) and our scheduled performances in Charlotte (July 6-10) and our scheduled performances of TORUK – Avatar in Raleigh (June 22-26).”

The statement says that Cirque du Soleil “believes in equality for all” and all tickets will be refunded.
