An Australian church has unknowingly erected a racy, innuendo-filled message.

The Anglican Church of the Holy Spirit used a Biblical reference that called for people to “swallow not spit” but the message – which was shared by MP John-Paul Langbroek – has other interpretations that the church has seemingly forgotten.

The giant sign outside the church reads: “Forgiveness is swallowing when you’d rather spit”.

Langbroek captioned his tweet: “#ChurchSigns done differently #thefabulousGoldie #surfersparadise [sic]”

With the sudden interest in the sign appearing on social media, a church spokesperson explained the Biblical reference… but it still made an unknowing joke on oral sex.

They told the Gold Coast Bulletin (GCB): “You don’t open your mouth and yell at somebody, you close your mouth and swallow.

“If you want to say something, keep your mouth closed for a bit. Swallow it, don’t spit it out.”

Well, if they are the words of the Bible, then we are all for following the rules!
