Baseball player buys tickets to fill stadium on LGBT night

To help celebrate diversity, US Major League baseball team Oakland Athletics are holding an LGBT night later this year.

Oakland Athletics announced the event as part of their Special Events season, explaining that some of the proceeds from Pride Night, set to take place in June, will go toward supporting LGBT arts.

Sadly, after hearing about the news, a large number of season ticket holders shared their dismay at the team’s support of the LGBT community, and claimed that they didn’t want to attend the game.

In an effort to make the night a success, Oakland Athletics’ reliever Sean Doolittle and his girlfriend Eirann – who has, in her own words, two “hella gay moms“, have offered to buy tickets and donate them to LGBTQ youth from any fan unwilling to attend the event. In a blog post, Eirann wrote:

A’s fans; if attending a baseball game on LGBT Pride Night makes you at all uncomfortable, it is probably a good idea to sell your tickets. And I have the perfect buyer. ME! If you’d like to sell your tickets to June 17th’s LGBT Pride Night game, I will buy them from you at face value. As many as I can. No judgments. No questions asked. From there, I will donate any tickets I purchase to the Bay Area Youth Center’s Our Space community for LGBTQ youth.

After a hugely positive response from the community, the couple decided to set up a GoFundMe page in order to help them buy as many tickets are possible, whilst promising to match up to $3,000 dollars worth of donations.
