Archie comic banned in Singapore over gay wedding storyline

An issue of Archie Comics featuring a gay wedding has been banned by Singaporean authorities.
The third instalment in the Archie: Married Life series, a spin-off of the long-running comic franchise, was first published in 2012 and features the wedding of gay character Kevin Keller.
“We found its content to be in breach of guidelines because of its depiction of the same-sex marriage of two characters in the comic,” a spokesperson from Singapore’s Media Development Authority told TIME.
“We thus informed the local distributor not to import or distribute the comic in retail outlets.”

Singapore’s state-run National Library Board (NLB) have recently cracked down on material they deem to be against the country’s “traditional family values”, which led to the NLB banning a children’s book about a couple of gay male penguins raising a chick together. Read the full story here.
