Ann Widdecombe: ‘I felt alienated by gay marriage’

Ann Widdecombe felt “alienated” by the Conservatives’ decision to legalise same-sex marriage in England and Wales earlier this year.
The politician said she was unhappy with the way David Cameron “bulldozed” the legislation through parliament.
In an interview the Daily Telegraph, she said: “I was very angry with the Conservatives, I was very alienated by gay marriage, not only by the issue but by the attitude of the party high command.
“David Cameron just bulldozed the whole thing through, though it had never been in any manifesto or tried or tested.”
However, Widdecombe refuted claims that she is considering defecting to UKIP over her discontent with the party.
“I’d rather form my own party than ever join UKIP,” she said, before adding jokingly: “We could call it the Widdy Mob.”
