Air Canada to scrap using ‘ladies and gentlemen’ to become more gender inclusive
The airline will instead address passengers as 'hello everyone' when making announcements

Air Canada is planning to scrap staff addressing passengers as ‘ladies and gentlemen’ when making announcements onboard.
In a bid to become more gender inclusive, the airline will ban staff from greeting passengers with ‘ladies and gentlemen’ or ‘mesdames et messieurs’ and instead will address customer with ‘hello everyone’ or ‘tout le monde’.
A spokesperson told CTV News Montreal: “We will be amending our onboard announcements to modernise them and remove specific references to gender.
“We work hard to make sure all employees feel like valued members of the Air Canada family, while ensuring our customers are comfortable and respected when they choose to travel with us.”
It was not revealed when these changes will be introduced.
Other airlines – including United and Air Italy – have also changed policies relating to gender identities by introducing an ‘X’ for gender when booking a flight.
