Adam Lambert turned down Hedwig on Broadway

Adam Lambert has revealed he turned down the chance to play the lead role in the Broadway show Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Asked by Queerty why he hadn’t yet been approached to play Hedwig – a role which requires a strong set of pipes – Lambert said, “They offered. I’m flattered they asked me, but it’s not what I want to do right now. It’s an amazing role. Maybe one day. The thing about it is I don’t want to get in drag for eight shows a week.”

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a musical about a fictional rock and roll band fronted by a genderqueer East German singer named Hedwig, who has been played by a host of stars including Neil Patrick Harris, Michael C Hall, Andrew Rannells, and Darren Criss – with Taye Diggs taking on the role next.

Speaking about Broadway in general though, he did offer some hope. “I definitely want to try it, but there’s nothing on the radar right now.”
