Age: 25
Occupation: Social media executive
Dave (right)
Age: 28
Occupation: Graphic designer and photographer
What were you hoping to get out of the date?
C: A friend signed me up without my knowledge, so I wasn’t hoping to get anything out of it because I only knew about it the week before!
D: To meet a guy and have a nice evening. If it turns into something more, that’s a bonus.
What were your first impressions?
C: Lovely, friendly and chatty.
D: Charles is a very handsome man and he had a beaming smile, which put me at ease.
How different was he to your usual type?
C: I normally go for older, gym-fi t guys with dark features, while Dave is slim and blond.
D: He is my usual type: handsome, good dress sense, great chat, kind and caring.
Would you have swiped left or right?
C: It’s difficult because you don’t see somebody’s personality on an app. If I’d have seen him, it would be left — but he is such a nice guy!
D: Definitely right.
How was the conversation?
C: Time flew by. I’m usually quite shy but Dave was so easy to talk to. We discovered that he went to the same school as my best friend from university.
D: Conversation flowed all night. We covered our likes (jam Wagon Wheels) and dislikes (Brexit).

What was the most interesting thing about him?
C: That he’s into music and writes his own songs.
D: His views on life and family. It was also interesting that his friend secretly applied on his behalf.
What was his best quality?
C: His charisma. He is very likeable and definitely a people person.
D: His eyes and smile were captivating.
What did you make of his dress sense?
C: He looked dapper and was wearing a suit. Can’t really fault that.
D: He was dressed really nicely. I couldn’t pull off a denim jacket, so I’m jealous.
What do you think he thought of you?
C: “Holy shit, get me away from this gremlin!”
D: I hope he thought that I was a nice guy who made him feel at ease.
What were you most worried he would notice about you?
C: That I was still hungry after the three courses. I went home and bought six jam Wagon Wheels
D: I was slightly worried that he’d realise I’m a lightweight, especially on wine.
How was the food?
C: Delicious. The steak was beautiful.
D: Really lovely and well presented.

Charles and Dave dined at M Restaurant, Victoria Street, London
Any awkward moments?
C: None. Dave will make a guy very happy one day.
D: Not that I can remember… the wine probably helped with that.
Were there any deal-breakers?
C: He did say that Pride shoved homosexuality down people’s throats. I disagreed and subtly argued my point, which he quickly said was true.
D: No deal-breakers. We had similar views on a lot of things.
How did the night end?
C: We walked to Victoria station, hugged, told each other it was lovely to have met, then went our separate ways.
D: We both walked to Victoria station and hugged each other goodbye.
What would you have changed about the night?
C: Added another two courses…
D: I think we both had a good time, just no “spark”.
Snog, marry, avoid?
C: I sound so mean but I’d have to avoid simply because there wasn’t any chemistry there. I had a great time with him, though.
D: Snog — and a Facebook friend request.
Will you meet again?
C: I’d happily see him for a drink as friends.
D: I guess I have to leave that to fate… or Facebook.
