Wonder Woman kisses Superman’s sister in latest DC Comics series

Wonder Woman has shared a kiss with Superman’s sister in a new comic series in the latest victory for LGBTQ representation in DC comics.
The series, Dark Knights of Steel, sees DC heroes portrayed during medieval times and has been written by Tom Taylor, Yasmine Putri, Arif Prianto, and Wes Abbott.
In the second issue in the series, Lois Lane arrives on the Amazonian Island Themyscira to tell Princess Zala – Superman/Kal-El’s sister – that her father has died. In the comic, Lane finds Wonder Woman/Diana training with Zala where she reveals to the latter that her father has been murdered.
Diana comforts her friend, telling her she will help Zala any way she can before the two share a tender kiss before Zala flies away. The writers have hinted that the relationship will be further explored in future issues.
It’s not the first time Wonder Woman’s sexuality has come up. In 2016, DC Comics writer, Greg Rucka confirmed that Diana was queer. He told publications: “We’ve had a long history of people – for a variety of reasons, including sometimes pure titillation, which I think is the worst reason – say, ‘Ooo. Look. It’s the Amazons, they’re gay.’
“And when you start to think about giving the concept of Themyscira its due, the answer is, ‘How can they not all be in same-sex relationships?’ Right? It makes no logical sense otherwise.”
But he went on to say that: “an Amazon doesn’t look at another Amazon and say, ‘You’re gay.’ They don’t. The concept doesn’t exist.”
2021 has been a good year for LGBTQ representation in DC comics following Robin’s coming out in August and Superman’s son coming out in October.
