Wogan: ‘Conchita Wurst turned Eurovision into a freak show’

Terry Wogan has claimed that Conchita Wurst turned this year’s Eurovision Song Contest into a “freak show”.

The former BBC commentator made the remark while reviewing Graham Norton’s autobiography The Life and Loves of a He-Devil for The Irish Times.

He wrote: “The inspired, logical choice for my replacement was Graham.”

“Norton says my only advice to him was not to start drinking before song seven. He made it his own from year one – although I’m bound to say that the Bearded Lady who won this year, reducing Graham to tears, might have had a slightly different effect on me.

“I’ve always seen the Eurovision as a sometimes foolish farce, but not as a freak show,” the 76-year-old added.

Wurst’s victory at this year’s contest was named Moment of the Year at the Attitude Awards last month – watch the singer collecting her prize here.
