Move over Bette and Joan: the first trailer for the hotly-anticipated documentary Truman & Tennessee: An Intimate Conversation has dropped.

The portrait of friends, rivals, and gay literary icons Truman Capote and Tennessee Williams has also announced its on-demand UK release date: 30 April.

The 86-minute film brings the two forces together, comparing and contrasting their trajectories through dueling voices — the writers’ own, culled from archival footage.

Jim Parsons and Zachary Quinto (The Boys in the Band) portray, respectively, Capote and Williams at various stages of their lives.

Director Lisa Immordino Vreeland has previously told Deadline of the 86-minute film: “We created an intimate tête à tête with these two great literary giants, using their words and works to demonstrate their rich imaginary worlds, their passions, their love affairs, and their celebrity… and ultimately the price they paid for success and fame.”

Williams and Capote, who died within a year of each other, are two of the most acclaimed gay writers of all time.

Williams is known for plays such as The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire.

Capote’s most famous works include In Cold Blood and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
