After a Manchester show that was overshadowed by controversy last week, Madonna seemingly had a point to prove at last night’s Rebel Heart Tour stop in Glasgow (December 21).

The audience were left confused after the house lights were raised and the stage’s power disconnected with one song, ‘Holiday’, still left on the setlist. Unperturbed, the Queen of Pop launched into an unplugged rendition of her 1983 debut, leading an energetic sing-a-long in the packed arena, even with her microphone turned off.

Why the power was turned off remains unclear, with Madge implying after the show that she’d been shut off by the venue.

“We don’t stop til it’s over Glasgow! Don’t fuck with the Queen”, the 57-year-old tweeted after the show.

A spokesman for the SSE Hydro Arena has denied that the venue staff were to blame, however.

“Madonna finished her agreed set and then chose to come on for another song,” the spokesperson told The Scotsman.

“By that stage, all the power and control equipment had already been disconnected by her own production engineers. I would stress that this was not a venue decision.”
