The Exorcist showrunner slams homophobic viewers offended by gay kiss

He had some words for homophobic viewers.

The Exorcist showrunner Jeremy Slater has slammed homophobic viewers who were upset over a gay kiss on the show.

The show, a TV sequel to the 1973 horror film of the same name, saw excommunicated priest Marcus Keane (Ben Daniels) and Peter Morrow (Christopher Cousins) share a passionate kiss in a recent episode.

It all seemed too much for some viewers, as it sparked a homophobic backlash on social media, but Slater has some words for them. Speaking to Sci-Fi Bulletin last month, Slater said:

“I don’t think there was that much of a backlash. I saw a couple of homophobes on Twitter and my response is, ‘Good, f**k you. I’m glad you didn’t like it, I’m glad it ruined the show for you. You shouldn’t have good things in your life.'”

“If a homophobe can’t watch the show anymore because one of the characters is gay, then I’m glad something good has come out of it.”

He continued: “This is 2017 and we still have people throwing temper tantrums online because they don’t want to see gay characters. I think it’s the last gasp of a certain breed of dinosaur that’s on the way out, and let them kick and scream as they go.”

The Exorcist, which stars Sense8’s Antonio Herrera, has received praise since the debut of its first season last year. Catch the show on Wednesdays at 10 on SYFY in the UK.
