Sir Ian McKellen and Noel Clarke to host special screenings of ‘Chicken’

Sir Ian McKellen and Noel Clarke are set to host special screenings of Joe Stephenson’s debut film Chicken this month.

The film tells a story of Richard (Scott Chambers), 15, who has been struggling with learning difficulties. The only one who can understand him is his pet chicken Fiona. Richard longs to put down roots but he’s being stopped by his abusive older brother Polly (Morgan Watkins).

When the land they live on is bought by a new landowner who cut off the electricity, the brothers’ already poor living conditions get even worse. When Richard falls for Annabel (Yasmin Paige), the landowner’s daughter, his relationship with Polly reaches a breaking point and the younger brother knows that his life is going to change forever.

The film premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2015 it’s already been hailed as the independent film of the year with performances from the talented young cast. It’s set for release in UK cinemas on May 20.

Joe Stephenson’s feature is now backed up by Sir Ian McKellen, best known for playing Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogy, and Noel’s Clarke from Doctor Who and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.

Sir Ian McKellen presents Chicken on Friday 20 May at Vue Picadilly, Everyman Baker Street and Genesis Cinema, Mile End Road.

Noel Clarke will introduce the film on Sunday 22 May at The Gate, Notting Hill.
