Russell Tovey, Andrew Garfield and Denise Gough for Angels In America revival

Russell Tovey and Denise Gough will join Andrew Garfield in the 2017 National Theatre revival of Angels In America.

The Pulitzer Prize winning play by Tony Kushner had its UK premiere at the same theatre in 1992, and has gone on to be regarded as one of the best plays of the modern era, and a landmark piece about AIDS, and homosexuality at the end of the 20th century.

Tovey, best known for his roles in Looking and The Pass, will play Joe Pitt, a deeply closeted Mormon republican, who embarks on a gay affair. Denise Gough, who won an Olivier Award earlier this week for her breakthrough performance in Peoples, Places, Things, will play his long suffering, mentally unstable wife Harper Pitt.

Andrew Garfield has already been announced to play the lead role of Prior Walter, a man suffering from AIDS who believes he is a prophet.

The news was broken by Daily Mail theatre insider Baz Bamigboye on his Twitter last night.

Angels In America

runs from 20 April 2017 at the National Theatre in London.
