RuPaul to host ‘Saturday Night Live’ for the first time ever

RuPaul is set to host Saturday Night Live for the first time ever, in another career milestone for the Emmy-winning Drag Race matriarch.

Ru, 59, will front NBC’s iconic Saturday night comedy showcase on 8 February, in an episode that will also see Justin Bieber perform, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Though Ru has landed one of the most coveted presenting slots in US television, his episode won’t in fact mark his first appearance on SNL.

The drag superstar once appeared as part of sketch during an episode in 1993 – the same year he achieved his mainstream music breakthrough with dance anthem ‘Supermodel (You Better Work’).

Ru was congratulated on his latest gig by BFF and fellow Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, who wrote on Twitter: “This. Is NOT. A drill.
@nbcsnl @RuPaul hosting !! RU IS HOSTING SNL! FINALLY! OMFGGGGG”.

2020 already looks set to be Ru’s busiest year yet: His first scripted comedy series, AJ and the Queen, arrived on Netflix earlier this month, and the former Attitude cover star gifted fans with the surprise-release of 13th album You’re a Winner, Baby the same week.

With season 12 of Drag Race, All Stars 5, RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race and season two of Drag Race UK all set to air this year too, there’s more evidence than ever that while the Devil works hard, RuPaul works harder.

RuPaul hosts SNL on Saturday 8 February at 11:30 pm ET on NBC in the US.
