Mel C makes emotional show of solidarity with trans people at Brighton Pride – WATCH

Sporty Spice flew the flag for one of our community's most oppressed groups as she performed with Sink the Pink. on Saturday (3 August).

Mel C ensure trans and non-binary power was as much on display as Girl Power during an uplifting performance at Brighton Pride on Saturday (3 July).

Sporty Spice, who has been performing a Pride events across the globe this summer with queer London performance troupe Sink the Pink, used her set in the city to quite literally fly the flag for transgender and non-binary people as she performed Spice Girls classic ‘2 Become 1’.

Drawing raputruous applause as she unfurled the blue, pink and white stripes of the trans and non-binary community, Mel told the audience: “I’m going to get emotional again.”

The 45-year-old singer went on: “This is a flag that we probably don’t see often enough – and this is a flag we all want to see a lot more of.

“For anyone in the room who doesn’t know, this is the flag for trans and non-binary [people].

“Every part of the Pride community is very, very important, so tonight I’m shouting for this we one…

“We all need and we all deserve love.”

Speaking exclusively to Attitude last month, Mel opened up about her close relationship with the LGBTQ community, admitting hearing from queer fans about how the Spice Girls empowered them often moves her “to tears”.

“I love performing at Prides because it allows me to give something back to the LGBTQ community,” Mel told us.

“Over the years, understanding how much Spice Girls has impacted people, actually made me learn an awful lot about myself. Knowing that people have been so inspired by me and my fellow Spices has given me a lot of strength.

“I would like to think that I have been helped by the people we inspired, as much as we helped them.”
