Madonna makes chart history (again)

Madonna might have had a tough few months of it, but the Queen of Pop has just added another piece of chart history to her illustrious CV.

The 56-year-old now officially has the most number ones ever by an artist on a single Billboard chart, after her latest single Ghosttown became her 45th Number One on the Dance Club Songs chart.

The song’s ascent on this week’s chart saw Madge overtake legendary country star George Strait, who has 44 Number Ones on the Hot Country Songs chart.

“Thanks to all my fans on and off the dancefloor,” she told Billboard. “I’ll (always) be your partner.”

Trailing behind her for in terms of Dance Club Songs chart Number Ones are Beyoncé and Rihanna, who have 22 each – meaning Madge has more than the pair combined.

Madonna’s historic run of Dance Club Songs chart number ones began with the double-sided single Holiday/Lucky Star, which reached the top spot on the week of September 24, 1983.

Meanwhile, the Living for Love singer was back to her controversy-baiting ways yesterday, posting a picture of a Jewish and Muslim man in a tender, intimate embrace.
