Lady Gaga says she wouldn’t be where she is without her gay fans

The singer landed her first film lead in the upcoming 'A Star is Born' remake

Lady Gaga said she wouldn’t be where she is today if it wasn’t for her gay fans.

The singer landed her first lead role in a movie in the reboot of the classic A Star is Born alongside Bradley Cooper and although she has a successful music career, she says it is only because of her loyal, gay following.

She told reporters at the Toronto International Film Festival: “I really wouldn’t be here without the gay community, what they have taught me about love and acceptance and bravery.

“I make a joke sometimes, behind every female icon is a gay man.”

Gaga has received rave reviews for her role in the new movie where she plays Ally – a role previously portrayed by Barbra Streisand in 1976 and originated by Judy Garland in 1937.

She continued: “I think Bradley is an incredible filmmaker.

“I have acted before, but I’ve never been the lead actress of a feature film.

“Every day on set was such a thrill to watch him work. You can see the gears turning while he’s working even when he’s in character.”

A Star is Born is slated to be released next month. Watch the trailer below:
