Jude Law says the ‘world is ready’ for a gay children’s icon

Jude Law believes the world is “ready for” a gay children’s icon.
The actor is portraying a younger version of the Harry Potter character, Albus Dumbledore, in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and although author JK Rowling revealed that the future Hogwarts Headteacher is gay, his sexuality is not ‘explicitly’ developed in this movie.
However, during an interview with New York Times, Law admitted he thinks the world is ready for an openly gay children’s character.
He said: “I think the world is ready for it, and if it isn’t, it bloody well should be.”
David Yates – the director behind the Fantastic Beasts sequel – explained that Dumbledore’s sexuality won’t be ‘explicit’ in the sequel and Law went on to explain what the filmmaker meant.
He continued: “Put it this way: This film is not about his homosexuality, nor does his sexuality define him.
“But that relationship is certainly a defining element of who he is and what he’s about.
“I also don’t think he’s someone who has given his heart or his soul to many people. The aftermath of their relationship left him reeling, and he’s packed his heart in ice, to be honest, and no one’s quite thawed it.”
