Jessie Ware has said that her gay fans love it when she brings “the diva out” during her shows.
The Want Your Feeling singer described herself as a “tongue-in-cheek diva” when she performs in front of her gay fans, particularly in the US.
Speaking to Time Out, she said of gay audiences: “That’s when you bring the diva out! They love it. And then I usually trip up, or snort, or do something accidentally and the illusion is ruined. Anyway, at the moment it’s tongue-in-cheek diva.”
Ware will release her second studio album Tough Love in the UK on October 13, and in the US on October 21. It serves as the follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut album Devotion, which was released in 2012.
Asked how she keeps herself grounded, she replied: “For me, it’s really important to have a person who can tell me off if I’m being too much of a madam.
“When you’re performing ever night, it starts to feel more familiar than normal stuff – like just having dinner. That stuff is so important. And I’ve known my boyfriend – husband! – since we were very young, which helps.”
Ware will perform at iTunes Festival on Thursday (September 18) – find out more here.
