Jess Glynne: “I’m never going to put a label on my sexuality”

Earlier this year, “Don’t Be Hard on Yourself” singer Jess Glynne revealed that her debut album, I Cry When I Laugh, was largely inspired by her breakup with “the first girl [she’d] ever fallen in love with”.
But she recently told the Daily Star that she does not want to be labelled a lesbian, or bisexual… or anything, really.
“I’m never going to put a label on my sexuality and people should never feel uncomfortable about who they love,” Glynne said.
She added, “I wanted my album to be as honest as possible. I’ve laid all my cards on the table and gave the truth. There was never a question of hiding the story behind it.
“I pray one day we get to a point where it’s no longer a thing.”
Glynne also spoke in support of fellow artist Jessie J, who faced some backlash from fans when she said that her bisexuality was just a ‘phase’.
“Jessie should be able to go out with whoever she wants,” Glynne said. “People shouldn’t have to put a label on it – love is love.”
“Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself” recently became Glynne’s fifth Number One single, which means she’s now tied with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini for the most chart-toppers from a UK female artist.
