Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney to lead Yungblud Short Film, Mars

Yasmin Finney nation rise up! It’s been announced the Heartstopper breakout actress will star as the lead in another new project.
Finney will appear in Mars, an upcoming short film based on a story by Yungblud, as Charlie Acaster.
“All Charlie has ever wanted is a regular teenage existence – at least that’s what she thinks. Now one extraordinary night will make her reassess what truly matters,” the project’s logline reads.
Described as a frank story of self-discovery, Mars is set in the north of England and was shot in Blackpool in November 2021.
“I am so proud to be a part of Mars and am so excited for everyone to see it,” Finney states.
Mars was written by playwright Chris Bush with Abel Rubinstein as director, the latter shares their excitement to work with the “striking performer” that is Finney.
Rubinstein says: “She has the ability to tell a whole story with a single look. She utterly embodied the character of Charlie whilst also bringing so much more.”
“Yasmin’s quick wit and sense of humour gave Charlie a new dimension,” Rubinstein adds. “She is clearly destined for greatness and I would love the opportunity to work with her again.”
Mars also features a supporting cast of newcomers in the roles of Charlie’s friends, including Leah Choudhry as Maisie and Pete MacHale as Pete.
The 19-year-old, who made her screen debut in the lead role of Elle Argent in Heartstopper, currently has a packed schedule.
As well as Mars, she is set to appear in the 60th anniversary series of Doctor Who as a trans character called Rose, alongside Sex Education‘s Ncuti Gatwa.
It was also recently announced that Finney would be appearing in season two of Queerpiphany, the digital series fronted by the activist and social media celebrity Munroe Bergdorf and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK alum Tayce in which stars of the LGBTQ+ community share the pop culture moments that shaped them.
Also, of course, Finney is set to return to the beloved Netflix teen drama Heartstopper for seasons two and three.
Mars is set to have its world premiere at the London Film Festival in October.
