Greg Berlanti has revealed that gay Hollywood executives stopped him from casting gay actors in straight roles.

The TV and film producer is probably best known for his adaptation of Love, Simon and although openly gay himself – and married to former football star Robbie Rogers – Berlanti told the Hollywood Reporter that he wasn’t allowed to cast gay actors in straight roles.

The most shocking admission of his comments was that he revealed it was gay Hollywood executives who told him he wasn’t able to hire these actors who they knew to be gay.

He said: “Early on in my career, there were gay executives and gay casting people who were the least likely to let me cast an actor they knew was gay in a straight part.

“These were the individuals who know how important it would be.”

Last year Berlanti was reportedly on board to direct a biopic based around Hollywood heartthrob Rock Hudson.
