Gilmore Girls is reportedly being rebooted

Good news, Gilmore Girls fans: After almost a decade, Lorelai and Rory could soon be headed back to the small screen for a limited series on Netflix.

Multiple sources are reporting that the on-demand service is in talks with creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and original stars Lauren Graham (Lorelai) and Alexis Bledel (Rory) to revive the much-loved series, which aired for seven seasons between 2000 and 2007.

Netflix is apparently looking to revive the series in the form of four 90-minute movies in response to the original’s consistently high viewership on the internet streaming service.

Following the travails of a single mother, her teenage daughter and host of other colourful characters living in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, Gilmore Girls ran for six seasons on The WB, before moving to The CW for a polarising final seventh season without Sherman-Palladino at the helm.

Sherman-Palladino has often expressed her desire for a movie continuation to wrap us the series in the way she originally intended.

Addressing the topic of a potential revival over the summer when she reunited with the show’s cast at the ATX TV Festival, she said: “It would have to be the right everything — the right format, the right timing.

“If it ever happened, I promise we’ll do it correctly.”

While castings have yet to be officially confirmed, the revival is expected start production early next year.
