Ellis-Bextor: ‘I probably won’t make another dance album’

Sophie Ellis-Bextor has admitted she may never make another dance album.
Bextor, who is best known for floor-filling hits such as Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) and Murder On the Dancefloor, surprised fans earlier this year when she released a new album, Wanderlust, with a more slow-burning adult-pop sound.
The album, which Ellis-Bextor released on her own label, EBGB’s, having parted ways with Universal Records, debuted at number four on the UK’s Official Albums Chart – the singer’s best position since her debut album Read My Lips peaked at number two in 2001.
During an intimate gig in London this January, Ellis-Bextor told fans that she intended to make another dance album – but now appears to have changed her mind.
“There’s a misconception that someone was making me make dance music [when I was signed to Universal] but that’s not true,” she told Music Week, Popjustice reports. “When I first made this record I thought I was just putting it [dance music] on hold. It’s only now I’ve been allowed to really explore making this record that I don’t know if I’ll ever go back to making out-and-out dance music again.”
Although another full-on dance album is now unlikely, Ellis-Bextor added that she may “bring a little bit of disco to the party” on her next record.
