Dolly Parton has responded to claims that she mimed during her Glastonbury Festival set on Sunday (June 29).

A representative for the country singer issued a statement saying that “some people don’t know an amazing singer when they hear one”.

Celebrity fans debated the issue on Twitter, with Sky News presenter Kay Burley labelling Parton’s set as “disappointing” because of seemingly pre-recorded vocals.

However, Stephen Fry defended the 9 to 5 star, saying that it was merely a “HD live processor issue”.

The 68-year-old attracted huge crowds at Worthy Farm for her set on Sunday afternoon, performing hits like Islands in the Stream and I Will Always Love You.

Speaking to the crowd during her performance, she said: “It is such an honour and thrill to be here at Glastonbury. I’ve been waiting a lifetime for this.”
